Virtual Career Fair Makes Connections Easy

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/appi.pn.2013.5b6

Abstract

JobCentral gives job seekers and employers a new setting for connecting with each other.

Since its launch more than a year ago, APA JobCentral has been a popular go-to site for psychiatrists seeking new career opportunities and for employers searching for psychiatrists to fill vacant positions. And next month APA JobCentral will hold a Virtual Career Fair to make it even easier for these groups to connect.

The Virtual Career Fair, to take place on Tuesday, June 18, from noon to 3 p.m. Eastern time, will connect job seekers with hiring organizations directly, in a live, one-on-one online chat setting. Job-seekers can register for free, whether or not they are APA members. Once registered, they will be able to upload their resumes and review information about open positions, chat live with recruiters at each virtual booth during the fair, and build their networks by continuing their conversations with recruiters after the fair.

The Virtual Career Fair will be a valuable recruiting opportunity for hiring companies as well. They can purchase booths and develop company profiles prior to the career fair, conduct dozens of first-round interviews with job candidates during the fair, and use a rating system to score interactions and record notes; up to four recruiters will be able to showcase their open positions in a customized virtual booth.

All conversations will take place from the comfort of attendees’ home or office—no suit or travel is necessary! ■

Registration information for the Virtual Career Fair is posted at http://jobs.psychiatry.org.
