Spend an evening of good conversation, good food, and live music with your colleagues at the American Psychiatric Foundation’s annual benefit in one of New York’s most unusual spaces—Hangar 2 of the Intrepid aircraft carrier, part of the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. Visitors will be able to explore Hangar 2 and peruse its many exhibits.

The benefit will be held on Saturday, May 3, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The evening’s events include honoring recipients of the 2014 Awards for Advancing Minority Mental Health.

The USS Intrepid was launched in 1943 and served through World War II (surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike) and the Vietnam War before being used as a NASA recovery vessel for the Gemini and Mercury space missions in the 1960s. The ship was decommissioned in 1974. During its active-duty years, more than 50,000 men served on the aircraft carrier.

The USS Intrepid is now berthed on the Hudson River, serving as the centerpiece for the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. The museum, founded in 1982, allows visitors to experience a piece of American history and is a showcase for sea, air, and space innovation—and the stories of human triumph that they represent. The USS Intrepid is a National Historic Landmark.

The American Psychiatric Foundation is the charitable subsidiary of APA and holds a benefit each year in conjunction with APA’s annual meeting to support its public education and research initiatives. ■
