Juthani Appointed To Psychiatry RRC

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/pn.36.21.0017

Longtime residency training director Nalini Juthani, M.D., will now be able to use her expertise in psychiatric education more broadly.

APA President Richard Harding, M.D., appointed Juthani in August to the Residency Review Committee for Psychiatry (RRC) of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

Juthani, who is director of psychiatry training at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center and a professor of clinical psychiatry at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, begins her two-year term as a member of the RRC on January 1, 2002.

The RRC for psychiatry is one of 26 medical specialty committees that review accredited residency training programs and periodically revise the standards with which residents must comply.

In addition to being responsible for residency training at Bronx-Lebanon, Juthani also presides over medical student education and the continuing medical education program.

Juthani also serves on the Psychiatric News Editorial Advisory Board and on the scientific advisory panel of the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education. Last year Juthani was an executive council member of the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training.

“I was thrilled to hear from Dr. Harding about my appointment to the RRC,” Juthani told Psychiatric News.

Juthani has been director of residency training in psychiatry at Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center since 1979 and in the ensuing years has come into contact with trainees from all over the world.

“Most of my trainees come from international medical schools,” remarked Juthani. “I have felt gratified in having the challenges of training culturally diversified trainees.”

She sees her appointment to the RRC as “yet another opportunity to make a difference.” ▪
