Whenever APA announces that one of its annual meetings will be held in New York City, record numbers of psychiatrists waste no time in contacting their travel agent. It doesn’t require much sleuthing to uncover why everyone loves New York—at least for a week in May.
Theater lovers don’t have to wait for the plays and musicals they read about to finally wend their way to their local theaters. Art lovers have the opportunity to see originals of paintings, sculptures, and digital art they have been able to view only in books and magazines. The same is true for people whose passions are history, architecture, or even shopping.
And gourmands can sample some of the best ethnic and haute-cuisine restaurants in the world.
So the only thing missing is science, and APA’s annual meeting will tempt with more first-class offerings than members can hope to digest.
