Foundation Joins Federal Campaign

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/pn.40.23.0004b

The American Psychiatric Foundation has been selected as a member of the 2005 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The CFC is the federal government's annual workplace giving campaign. In 2004, it raised $257 million on behalf of U.S. charities throughout the country and abroad.

The charity drive runs from September 1 through December 15 each year. As the only program authorized to solicit and collect contributions from federal employees in their workplace, CFC-approved charities undergo a rigorous review of their fundraising and management practices. The amount spent on fundraising for a program must fall beneath a 25 percent threshold to qualify.

Federal employees can contribute to the foundation by designating CFC #9202. Contributions received through the CFC will become part of the foundation's annual fund, supporting its grants and programs that promote awareness of mental illnesses, early intervention, effectiveness of treatment, and access to quality mental health care.

“We are thrilled to be part of the 2005 Combined Federal Campaign,” said foundation President Altha Stewart, M.D. “Our message that mental illnesses are real and treatable is one that I believe will resonate with federal employees. I encourage all APA members to support the foundation in this year's campaign if they are eligible and to spread the word to family members and friends in the federal workforce.”

APA members who would like to support the foundation in the CFC campaign at their workplace can also help by distributing written materials about the foundation's grants and programs.
