Koplewicz Appointed

New York Gov. George Pataki and Sharon Carpinello, R.N., Ph.D., commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH), have announced the appointment of Harold S. Koplewicz, M.D., as executive director of OMH's Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) in Orangeburg, N.Y.

Koplewicz, an internationally known child and adolescent psychiatrist, is also director of the New York University (NYU) Child Study Center and the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU-Bellevue Hospital Center and vice chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine.

“Harold Koplewicz is a relentless psychiatric pioneer,” Pataki said in a press release. “This appointment signals our firm intent to aggressively address public health issues that are so pervasive and have such an impact on public welfare.”

NKI, located in Orangeburg, N.Y., on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center, is known for its pioneering contributions to psychiatric research in the study of the etiology, treatment, prevention, and rehabilitation of severe and persistent mental illnesses. ▪
