Sanders Receives APAPAC Contribution
Rep. Bernard Sanders (I-Vt., center) stands with Jonathan Weker, M.D. (left), and David Fassler, M.D., after delivering a contribution from APAPAC. Weker is the secretary of the Vermont Psychiatric Association, and Fassler is treasurer and also an APA Trustee.
Sanders is currently serving his eighth two-year term in the House of Representatives and is giving up his seat to run for the Senate seat to be vacated by the retiring Jim Jeffords (I-Vt.). Sanders is a member of the House Financial Services and Government Reform committees and the Mental Health Caucus. He has co-sponsored many APA-supported pieces of legislation, including the 2005 parity and privacy bills. He plans to continue his advocacy on behalf of mental health issues if elected to the Senate.
The visit with Sanders is part of an ongoing program at APA—through APAPAC—inwhich APA members educate federal legislators and policymakers about mental health issues.
