Single Payer

I can't help but express my satisfaction to see APA leaders moving more clearly toward supporting a single-payer insurance system in the United States as described in your June 16 issue. That issue recounted the annual meeting speech of APA President Steven Sharfstein, M.D., who advocated such a plan. This confirms what I always believed—that Americans will do the right thing after trying everything else.

The bad news? Brazil continues to copy the nonsystem of employer-sponsored health care with managed care and all that is so common in the United States. But I am sure this will also change.
