Toronto Tours Designed For Wide Range of Interests

APA members attending this year's annual meeting in Toronto will have six different tour opportunities for getting to know the city throughout the convention week.

The tours are provided by Event Transportation Systems (ETS). All depart from and return to the Toronto Convention Centre and require a minimum of 30 people. Costs include round-trip bus transportation, tour guide, admissions, coordination, local taxes, gratuities, and other items unless otherwise noted.

The following are the six tours being offered:

Toronto City Tour: This tour provides an overview of the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada. Tour goers will see the city's most famous landmarks including the CN Tower, Parliament buildings, financial district, harbor front, Rogers Centre, Chinatown, and the upscale Yorkville and Forest Hill neighborhoods. Participants will continue on to Queens Park, Old and New City Halls, and the Eaton Centre. Casa Loma, next stop on the tour, is the city's most popular attraction. The former home of Canadian financier Sir Henry Pellatt, Canada's most renowned castle has 98 rooms, a pipe organ, gold-plated bathroom fixtures, underground tunnels, and secret passages.

The tour is offered on Saturday May 20, at 1 p.m.; Sunday, May 21, at 9 a.m.; Monday, May 22, at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, May 23, at 9 a.m.; and Wednesday, May 24, at 1 p.m.

Toronto Harbor Dinner Tour: Toronto's harbor, the Toronto Islands, and the magnificent Toronto Skyline are on view during this three-hour dinner cruise. Tour includes dinner, boat tour admission, and deluxe motor-coach transportation.

The tour is offered on Saturday, May 20, and Monday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m.

Niagara Falls: Everyone needs to see Niagara Falls, one of the Wonders of the World, at least once, and this year's annual meeting is the time to do it. Participants will travel southwest along the Queen Elizabeth Way to Niagara Falls, where they will have a buffet lunch overlooking the falls. Following lunch, participants may go on the Maid of the Mist for an exhilarating boat trip to the base of the falls. Plenty of time is allowed for photos and shopping.

This is an all-day tour offered on Sunday, May 21; Monday, May 22; Tuesday, May 23; and Wednesday, May 24. Departure time is 9 a.m.

Ontario's Wine Country: Enjoy a motor coach trip along the Queen Elizabeth Way to Niagara Peninsula and the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Participants will first arrive at the Jackson-Triggs Winery (voted International Winery of the Year). Later, participants will go to lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake and then to Pellar Estates vineyards, one of two regions in the world where ice wine is made.

This is an all-day tour offered on Sunday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 23. Departure time is 9 a.m.

30,000 Island Boat Cruise: Participants will depart Toronto and travel north to the town of Midland located on the southern shores of the Georgian Bay of Lake Huron. There, they will have time to explore the Historic French Jesuit Mission called St. Marie among the Hurons. The Mission was started in 1639, and 10 years later the community was forced to abandon and burn the facility. St. Marie among the Hurons now stands recreated on the original site. Participants will then travel to the Midland waterfront to board an excursion boat for a two-and-a-half hour cruise through the 30,000 islands of Muskoka.

This is an all-day tour offered on Monday, May 22, and Wednesday, May 24. Departure time is 9 a.m.

Toronto Harbor Tour: This tour is similar to the Harbor Dinner Cruise but without the dinner.

The tour is offered on Sunday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 23, at 2 p.m.

“Lord of the Rings” play: A night of live theater at the Princess Whales Theater features the new hit play “Lord of the Rings.” APA members and family interested in seeing the play are advised that they are responsible for their own transportation to the theater and that tickets are limited.

This event is offered on Sunday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m., and on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 23 and 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Old Town Walking Tour: What better way to see a city than on foot? This tour will start from the old King Edward Hotel and end at the Distillery District. Participants will enjoy an in-depth tour of the first Parliament buildings, Distillery District, Historic Queens Street, Old Court House, St. James Cathedral, first post office, and the Flat Iron Building.

This two-hour walking tour is offered Saturday, May 20, at 2 p.m., and Sunday and Tuesday, May 21 and 23, at 10 a.m.

Niagara Falls—one of the great wonders of the natural world—is only 90 miles from Toronto. Those attending the annual meeting can take advantage of an all-day tour to the falls that includes a buffet lunch and time to take a “Maid of the Mist” boat trip to the falls' base.
