Journal Articles Since APA's Founding Now Online
Psychiatry has an incredibly rich history extending back more than a century and a half, but much of it has been difficult to access without spending hours in a library carrel. To remedy that situation, American Psychiatric Publishing Inc. (APPI) has made 162 years of psychiatric research and clinical information easily accessible online through its new Psychiatry Legacy Collection.
The collection makes available the articles that have appeared in six peer-reviewed APA journals, the first of which appeared in 1844, the year that the organization that eventually became APA was founded.
“Fully searchable, high-resolution scans were created from the original printed pages to ensure easy online reading and printing,” an APPI press release noted.
The journals in the collection are the American Journal of Psychiatry (which from 1844-1921 was called the American Journal of Insanity), Academic Psychiatry, Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, Journal of Psychotherapy Practice and Research, Psychiatric Services, and Psychosomatics.
APA members and other individuals who subscribe to APA journals have free access to the Psychiatry Legacy Collection once they activate the online portion of their subscription.
