'Boston Legal' and 'Ugly Betty' Among PRISM's Latest Picks
Popular TV series “Desperate Housewives,” “Boston Legal,” and “Ugly Betty” were among the winners of the 2007 PRISM awards, which recognize the accurate depiction of mental illness, including drug and alcohol addiction, in the entertainment industry.
The awards took place at the Beverly Hills Hotel in April and were co-hosted by television personality Melissa Rivers and Brian Dyak, who is the CEO and president of the Entertainment Industries Council (EIC).
Winners included Mariska Hargitay for Performance in a Drama Episode (“Law and Order: Special Victims Unit”), Rene Auberjonois and Jayne Brook for Performance in a Drama Multi-Episode Storyline (“Boston Legal”), Judith Light for Performance in a Comedy Series (“Ugly Betty”), Keith Carradine and Allison Janney for Performance in a TV Movie (“Our Very Own”); and Maurice Bernard for Performance in a Daytime Drama (“General Hospital”).
Other PRISM award winners included “Thank You for Smoking” for Feature Film-Wide Release Category, “Sherrybaby” for Feature Film-Limited Release, “Desperate Housewives” for Comedy Multi-Episode Storyline, “ER” for Drama, “House” for Drama Multi-Episode Storyline, “Family Guy” for Comedy Episode,“ Anderson Cooper 360” for TV News Magazine Segment, and “Dr. Phil” for TV Talk Show Episode.
Two new categories were launched for the 2007 awards: “American Dad,” an after-school special, won the Mental Health Award, and the film“ Jellysmoke” won the Bipolar Disorder Award.
The awards are presented by the EIC, partnering with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the FX Network.
