Treating Youth With Antipsychotics: What Does the Evidence Say?
Abstract
Side effects stemming from antipsychotic use in children are similar to those experienced by adults, but children may be at greater risk for such events, says Christoph Correll, M.D.
As headlines bring more attention to the use of antipsychotics in children and adolescents, Christoph Correll, M.D., a professor of psychiatry and molecular medicine at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and medical director of the Recognition and Prevention program at the Zucker Hillside Hospital in New York, provides insight on the latest evidence-based treatments involving the use of antipsychotic medications in youth with such diagnoses as psychosis, bipolar disorder, or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. He was interviewed at the 2015 American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Annual Meeting.
