More on Krauthammer Lecture

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/pn.38.16.0026a

This letter is in response to the letter by Dr. William Alvarez in the July 4 issue.

In contrast to Dr. Alvarez, the highlight of APA’s 2003 annual meeting for me was the deeply thought-provoking analysis offered by Dr. Charles Krauthammer in this year’s William C. Menninger Memorial Convocation Lecture.

Perhaps those living in la-la land do not want to be disturbed by the realities of today’s world, but the rest of us who live in the real world are very aware of the issues so eloquently raised by Dr. Krauthammer. One wonders about the foolish “masochistic” or “self-defeating” tendencies of those who would not try to take preemptive action in the face of blatant aggression.
