Updated Locator of Treatment Programs Available Online

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) online Treatment Facility Locator has been updated. The locator is a searchable database of more than 11,000 addiction treatment programs that treat alcohol and drug abuse problems.

The locator includes private and public substance abuse treatment facilities that are licensed, certified, or otherwise approved in all 50 states, District of Columbia, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Puerto Rico, Republic of Palau, and Virgin Islands.

The locator Web site also includes a list of state substance abuse agencies, along with contact information and links to their Web sites. In addition, a link is provided to SAMHSA's Buprenorphine Physician Locator, which identifies physicians who are authorized to prescribe buprenorphine for addiction treatment by ZIP code, city, county, or state.

The updated locator complements SAMHSA's National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Programs 2005, which is published annually in hard copy.

SAMHSA's Treatment Facility Locator can be accessed at<http://findtreatment.samhsa.gov>. The short report, “Using the Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator,” is posted at<www.oas.samhsa.gov>.
