In July Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle (R) vetoed a bill to give psychologists in
the state the right to prescribe. Last month psychiatrists got a chance to
thank her and to network with other Hawaii lawmakers at a reception at the
Waikiki Aquarium during the interim meeting of the AMA's House of Delegates.
Lingle told attendees that her state—home to many military
families—was confronted with the challenge of meeting the mental health
needs of veterans returning from Iraq and
Afghanistan.
