The American College of Psychoanalysts invites APA members and members-in-training to attend its plenary lectures on Saturday, May 22, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Iberville Suites in New Orleans. There is no charge for attendance.

College members are psychiatrists and psychoanalysts who have made contributions in research, education, and clinical work and wish to contribute their perspectives and expertise as an affiliate organization.

The first plenary lecture, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., will be given by Joy Osofsky, Ph.D., on "Psychoanalytic Perspectives on Disaster Response for Children and Families." Osofsky is a professor of pediatrics and psychiatry at Louisiana State University. Her presentation will include psychoanalytic theoretical and empirical backgrounds that can frame the understanding of trauma and its impact. She was involved in the care of children and families after Hurricane Katrina.

The second plenary lecture, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., will be given by Robert Michels, M.D. He will discuss "Psychoanalysis and Psychiatry: Past, Present, and Future." Michels is the University Professor of Medicine and of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medical College and is a training and supervising psychoanalyst at the Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. He will explore the complex history of the relationship between psychoanalysis and psychiatry.
