Cassem, M.D. Educational Objective: Delirium—an acute disturbance of consciousness, cognition, and behavior—is common in the general hospital. It is often a dangerous and frightening syndrome. The physician who can help manage delirium is appreciated by everyone involved: patient, family, nurses, and the surgeons and internists who refer the patient for consultation.
