APA is a supporting organization for two national conferences sponsored by
the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and Joint
Commission Resources. The first conference, "Prevention of Patient and
Resident Suicides" will be held in Chicago on September 23. The
conference will provide individual and panel presentations offering essential
information for health care workers to identify and treat individuals who are
likely to attempt suicide while undergoing treatment and up to 72 hours after
discharge from an inpatient acute care or behavioral health setting. The
second conference, "The National Conference on Behavioral Health: A
Focus on Outcomes Research and the Use of Data" will follow in the same
location, from September 24 to 25. It is designed to address the efficacy of
behavioral health care treatment and the challenges associated with gaps in
the mental health care system in the United States.
