Rebecca Rinehart, former publisher for the Endocrine Society, has been named publisher of American Psychiatric Publishing Inc. (APPI). She assumed her new position in mid-April.

Rinehart served as senior director and publisher at the Endocrine Society since 2008, overseeing the society's publishing program, including its four scientific journals, three periodicals, books, CME programs, and Endocrine News.

"Ms. Rinehart brings broad publishing experience in biomedical science and health education," said James H. Scully Jr., M.D., APA medical director and CEO. "We are delighted to have Ms. Rinehart's leadership as APPI continues its function as a full-service publishing house for the field of psychiatry and mental health."

Rinehart told Psychiatric News, "I decided to come to APA because it is considered one of the most premiere medical society publishing programs and a model in professional scientific, technical, and medical publishing, integrating books, journals, and news publications. I hope to build on that success by integrating a robust digital strategy to complement and add value to existing publications."

Before coming to the Endocrine Society, Rinehart served as director of publications at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, where she developed a publishing program consisting of books, journals, periodicals, and consumer literature. She started her career at Harper & Row Publishers, where she rose to the position of senior medical editor for acquisitions.

Rinehart's predecessor at APPI was Ron McMillen, who retired at the end of March after a 35-year career at APA, which included the launching of APPI (Psychiatric News, May 6).
