David Merrill, M.D., a psychiatry resident at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, won first prize for his research paper titled" Adverse Cardiac Effects Associated With Clozapine" from the Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome Information Service (NMSIS).

According to NMSIS, Merrill's work "sheds light on the formerly little-recognized phenomena of clozapine-associated myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. By raising awareness, the review may lead to improved patient care."

Second prize went to Christoph Correll, M.D., for "Tardive Tourette Syndrome: Variant of Tardive Dyskinesia or Underrecognized Discrete Extrapyramidal Side Effect Syndrome?" Correll is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and research scientist at the Zucker Hillside Hospital, North Shore—Long Island Jewish Health System in New York.
