Approximately 30 psychiatrist mentors joined psychiatry residents and medical students at the Minority Mentors Orientation Breakfast held during APA's 2011 annual meeting in Honolulu in May. The annual breakfast event is hosted by APA's National Minority Mentors Network, which supports and nurtures minority psychiatrists who are in training. The network is supported by APA's Office of Minority and National Affairs, headed by Annelle Primm, M.D.

Now in its 15th year, the event serves as an extra orientation to the annual meeting's many sessions and activities for these young psychiatrists and students. Breakfast attendees also have the opportunity to learn about the rewards and challenges of being a psychiatrist from a mentor network of experienced clinicians.
