2014 Spurlock Congressional Fellow Selected

Abstract

Ellyn Johnson, M.D., has been selected as the 2014 APA Jeanne Spurlock Congressional Fellow. Johnson is chief resident at the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University in Augusta. She completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University and is a 2012-2013 APA/SAMHSA Minority Fellow with particular interest in military and public mental health policy. During her SAMHSA fellowship, Johnson worked on posttraumatic stress disorder research and added a mindfulness curriculum to her residency program that seeks to increase resident’s cultural competency through improvement of clinician self-awareness and stress tolerance. She also served as representative for the Minority Fellowships to the APA Assembly. She will begin her fellowship on Capitol Hill in January 2014. After completing the congressional fellowship, Johnson will return to active duty in the U.S. Air Force.
