Sharpen Your Skills at Military Care: Free Webinar
In observance of Veterans’ Day, APA is collaborating with two major organizations to present a webinar that will help APA members provide more effective care to members of the military, veterans, and their families. The webinar, “Military Culture Counts: What Health Care Providers Need to Know in Assisting Service Members and Veterans,” will be held on Monday, November 10.
The organizations partnering with APA are the Association of American Medical Colleges and Joining Forces, a public-private partnership created by First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, Ed.D., to improve the quality of life of members of the military, veterans, and their families.
The goal of the webinar is to educate community-based health care providers, including psychiatrists, about military culture and provide clinical vignettes to guide providers on how to effectively work with members of the military and veterans. The webinar will provide information on military culture, the impact of stigma within military culture, as well as examples of language to use to engage patients in their care.
“APA is honored to partner with Joining Forces and the AAMC in this important initiative,” said APA President Paul Summergrad, M.D. “We are committed to ensuring that the men and women who serve their country and their families receive the highest-quality and most scientifically based psychiatric care they need to live fulfilling, successful lives during active-duty service as well as when transitioning back to civilian life. We owe them no less”
