“To whom much is given, much is required—a sentiment taught to me by my parents and grandparents,” Harris said after her election. “I am humbled by the gift of confidence that my fellow trustees have placed in me by electing me secretary, and I commit to living up to the requirements of leadership in the AMA.”

Harris—a psychiatrist in Atlanta and a former member of the APA Board of Trustees—also delivered the AMA’s financial report at last month’s meeting of the House of Delegates, in which she indicated that AMA revenues had increased from the previous year. Especially good news, she said, was that in 2013 the AMA recorded an increase in membership for the third year in a row. “The AMA is well positioned strategically and financially to pursue its ambitious agenda to improve the health of the nation,” Harris told delegates. ■
