Celebrate 25 Years With the APA Foundation on May 20

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/appi.pn.2017.2b42

Abstract

Food and wine lovers will enjoy the setting for this year’s benefit: the San Diego Wine and Culinary Event Center, located directly across from the San Diego Convention Center.

When you think of APA’s 2017 Annual Meeting, does your mind begin to run through the long list of things that you need to accomplish as you get ready for the trip to San Diego? Or which sessions you don’t want to miss? How about whom you should see while you are there? Push all those work thoughts aside and take a break to think of how to spend your time when you are not in the convention center.

Start dreaming of sunshine or a brisk walk along the water. Start planning for social time and fine dining. And be sure to mark your calendar for the American Psychiatric Association Foundation’s Annual Benefit, to be held this year on Saturday, May 20, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the San Diego Wine and Culinary Event Center. Not only is the benefit one of the most popular events at the Annual Meeting each year, but this year it’s particularly special: the Foundation will be celebrating its 25th anniversary!

Foodies will delight in gourmet hors d’oeurves, while wine lovers will savor some of the best new wines and blends. Dessert and entertainment included! The San Diego Wine and Culinary Event Center features a spacious patio where guests can enjoy the pleasant evening weather while spending time with friends. And the venue is convenient, just steps away from the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter.

The Foundation, which is the charitable arm of APA, holds a benefit each year to raise funds to support public education on psychiatry and mental health, as well as professional grants, fellowships, and awards. Here are some of the areas and programs in which the Foundation provides support:

  • Education: Typical or Troubled School Mental Health Education Program

  • Workplaces: Partnership for Workplace Mental Health

  • Justice: Stepping Up Initiative and the Judges Leadership Initiative

  • Veterans: Advocating for mental health services and funding

  • Faith Community: Mental Health and Faith Community Partnership

  • Medical Fellowship and Research: APA foundation grants, fellowships, and awards

Tickets sell out quickly, so don’t delay! If you can’t attend and would like to make a donation to the Foundation, please visit www.apfdn.org/donate. More information about the Foundation can be accessed here, by emailing [email protected], or calling (703) 907-8512. ■
