The Aquarium of the Americas will be open only to APA members and their guests attending this year’s fundraising event on Saturday, May 5, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The aquarium features displays on the major aquatic habitats of North and South America, including the Caribbean Sea, Amazon rain forest, Mississippi River, and Gulf of Mexico.
The American Psychiatric Foundation, in conjunction with the American Psychiatric Association Alliance, will host this special fundraising event on Saturday, May 5, 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Aquarium of the Americas. Guests will experience an evening of private access to the aquarium, which is known for its world-class exhibits, while informally meeting with colleagues and sampling a rich variety of gourmet desserts, coffees, liqueurs, and specialties unique to New Orleans.
The Aquarium of the Americas, a part of the Woldenberg Riverfront Park, sits on the Mississippi riverfront and occupies a 16-acre site that serves as the perfect link between the historic French Quarter and the bustling Central Business District of the Crescent City.
Rated among the five best aquariums in the United States, the Aquarium of the Americas houses the world’s largest collection of jellyfish and penguins, plus plenty of land-dwelling birds and reptiles. One of its biggest draws is the 30-foot acrylic tunnel where angelfish, stingrays, and hundreds of other sea creatures surround visitors. An exhibit that’s been added since the last time APA’s meeting was held in New Orleans (1991) is the Seahorse Gallery, which gives visitors an up-close look at different varieties of these amazing creatures.
Plan to join the American Psychiatric Foundation and the APA Alliance in this fascinating setting while supporting psychiatric education and research. A portion of the ticket price is tax deductible.
A ticket order form will be published in a future issue of Psychiatric News and posted on APA’s Web site. More information is available from
