Anti-OCD Suggested
Musical hallucinations with an emphasis on perceiving music falsely, humming to oneself, or recollecting music appear to be most common in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients, according to an article in the May 21 issue.
Neurobiological features are suggested by cognitive inflexibility after prefrontal serotonin depletion manifested by perseveration seen in OCD patients. These findings support initiating a psychopharmacologic trial with an anti-OCD agent (for example, an SSRI) rather than an antipsychotic agent, according to H.F. Clarke and colleagues. They are the authors of the article“ Cognitive Inflexibility After Prefrontal Serotonin Depletion,” which appeared in the May 7 Science.
