Blumenthal Honored

Rear Adm. Susan Blumenthal, a distinguished fellow of APA, is the recipient of the First International Progetto Donna Award for global contributions to advancing women's health. The award was presented at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C., in June.

Blumenthal served as the U.S. assistant surgeon general and the country's first deputy assistant secretary for women's health. She is now director of the Health and Medicine Program at the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress, chair of the Global Health Program at the Meridian International Center, and a clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine.

Italian Ambassador Giulio Terzi commented at the award ceremony, “Dr. Blumenthal is one of the most influential women in medicine today. We are proud at the embassy that she has kindly accepted to have a key role in the next Global Health Conference, which will be held here in October.”
