The APA Assembly elected its new officers at last month's three-day meeting in Honolulu. The Assembly's new speaker-elect is Scott Benson, M.D., of Pensacola, Fla., who just completed a term as the group's recorder. Benson bested Area 5 Rep. John Gaston, M.D., of Atlanta.

Replacing Benson as Assembly recorder is Melinda Young, M.D., a representative of the California Psychiatric Association. Young outpolled Ramaswamy Viswanathan, M.D., a representative of the New York State Psychiatric Association. Both posts have one-year terms that began at the close of the APA annual meeting in May. Also at the close of the meeting, Ann Sullivan, M.D., became the Assembly speaker after a term as speaker-elect.
