On April 18, APA presented its first American Psychiatric Excellence (APEX) Awards at a special fund-raising event held in conjunction with the national Stepping Up Summit. Above is Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.), who was one of the award recipients and gave a keynote address; with him are APA CEO and Medical Director Saul Levin, M.D., M.P.A., and APA President Renȳe Binder, M.D. The three-day summit, of which the APA Foundation was a co-sponsor, brought together teams from 50 U.S. counties to advance the national movement to reduce the number of people with mental illness in America’s jails. Complete coverage of the summit and the APEX awards event will appear in the next issue. ■
