Diversity 3.0: From Fairness to Excellence

Since the publication of landmark reports, such as Unequal Treatment, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of increasing diversity in the health professions. Despite concerted efforts to integrate diversity and inclusion, there is still much work to be done as evidenced by the continued health disparities for underserved communities, demographic makeup of our medical school students, faculty, physician workforce, and challenges with inclusiveness.

In this session, Marc A. Nivet, Ed.D., the chief diversity officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges, will use the Diversity 3.0 framework to provide a historical perspective on how medicine has evolved in its diversity efforts stemming from fairness and progressing to excellence. He will also provide leadership insights and share tools and resources that can be leveraged to accelerate the eradication of health care disparities and promote better health for all.

Nivet is known for creating innovative collaborations that have been recognized nationally as models of success and for writing and lecturing about diversity as a driver of educational excellence. Among the topics on which he is expert are diversifying academic medicine, eliminating racial disparities in health care, and best practices for increasing minority enrollment in health professional schools.

The session will be held Monday, May 16, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Room B409, Building B, Level 4, of the Georgia World Congress Center. ■
